Hard to Stay Annoyed

Friday, March 17th, 2006

So we’re having a rough morning. Not sure why.
Maybe the fact that “Goggy” (grandma) was just here spoiling Quinn for a week while Thor & I were at SxSW and now he’s expecting to have every whim catered to?
Or maybe the news this morning that his “baby cousin” is joining us in the world today [...]

Live the Content

Friday, March 17th, 2006

My all time favorite quote of SxSW. When asked what her typical day is like, Heather Armstrong, dooce.com, explained that she spends the morning with her husband and daughter. That she has to “live the content” before she can write about it. Simple, yet terribly insightful.
Since we all like to think of ourselves as characters [...]

Mommy who?

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

I’m actually here. I made the plane reservations. I arranged for my mom to come down and stay with Quinn. I notified all our clients that we’d be in Austin March 10 - 15. But it never actually sunk in that I was travelling, child-free, to SxSW. The first wave of awareness hit me as [...]

Just Add Water

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Looking out at the cottage being constructed behind our house.
Quinn: Mommy, I want to see the little house, mommy.
We look out the window.
Q: Mommy, when is it going to be a bigger house like the other houses?
Amy: It’s not going to be a bigger house. They built it the size it is. Houses don’t grow.
10 [...]

I Hope They Have a Spot for a Class Clown

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

We’re in the heat of the San Francisco Pre-School Search. We’ve narrowed it down to a few, but really have our eye on one particular school because not only is it a little slice of heaven in the heart of the city, but it goes through 8th grade — which means we get to avoid [...]

So Self Aware for a Four Year Old

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Quinn, crying: I can’t find my rubberband.
Amy, handing him a red rubberband: Well, here’s one.
Q: But I can’t find my other one. My BLUE one.
A: So rubberbands are the thing these days, huh?
Q: What, Mommy?
A: You’re really into rubberbands.
Q: Yes. I really love rubberbands today Mommy. And I like them too. I want to find [...]

Same Same But Different

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Quinn: Mommy, do is the same mean?
Amy: It means not different.
Q: Do is different mean?
A: Not the same….
Q: Well, do is no different?
A: The same.
Q: Do is yes different?
A: Different. Not the same.
Q: Do is the same?
A: Not different.
That’s when the headache set in.

A Little Dose of Political Incorrectness to Kick the Month Off Just Right

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

My business partner has a sweatshirt he wears on days he bikes into work. On the back it says “One less car on the road.”
So I’m thinking, how about a bumper sticker that says “One less bicycle on the road.”
I think I’d have a lot of fans. Ya, definitely a lot of fans.

Raising a Kid
I'm Quinn's mom. He's basically The Cutest Kid in the Known Universe. Ok, I know, your kid's cute too, but this one's mine. He was born in March of 2002 and came home from the hospital to a shower of Cherry Blossoms.

Founding Companies
In January 2007 Thor & I joined forces with Lane Becker of Adpative Path to found Satisfaction Unlimited. You can get a sneak peak by going here and clicking on any company or organization that suits your fancy. And you can get more insight by checking out our Satisfaction Blog. Previous to Satisfaction I was a founding partner of Rubyred Labs, a design driven Internet product development firm where we made cool stuff and enjoyed breakfast, particularly when it involved cereal, coffee and grapefruit. Jonathan Grubb is still running Rubyred.

Keeping the Peace
All this has left me craving a nap, but I still somehow manage to find time to travel with my brilliant and adorable husband (and sometimes my friends), experiment in the kitchen, and hit the town with my gorgeous, smart, single gal pals who are in search of kind, eligible men (I know you're out there...)
