Start Spreading the News

Thor & I are going to New York tomorrow. I have never been to New York. Seriously.

Okay, I was there once, but I was three and all I remember was looking out at the Statue of Liberty with my Dad and some old guy next to us saying “I’ve lived here all my life and this is the first time I’ve come out to look at her.” That is truly all I remember from that trip. I met my grandfather for the first and last time on that trip. (Sadly, he died shortly thereafter). We drove cross-country (with my three older brothers) for the first and last time on that trip. It was actually my first time in the United States. (I was born in Brazil.) And all I remember from that entire experience is the Statue of Liberty and some crusty local standing next to us.

But that New York trip doesn’t really count. I was three, it was the early 70s and I certainly didn’t eat at Nobu or shop in the East Village. (Is that where the good shopping is these days?)

Anyway, my head is spinning. We just got back from our roadtrip last Monday night. I dealt with the plasterdust nightmare on Tuesday. I found out on Thursday that I was going to New York this week. Then it was off to BlogHer for two days. I have yet to unpack from that and now have to pack for New York. NEW YORK! I am going to New York. Okay, I know I sound like a kid going to Disneyland for the first time, but that’s because I’m exactly like a kid going to Disneyland for the first time.

The sad part is that we’re going to meet with a client for two days and then turning right around to head home to SF. We’ll have one night in between. One night in New York City. One Wednesday night. That’s it. I must make the most of this one night. I know there’s a Flickr party which we may stop by but what else should we do? What? What? What? Which ride do we go on when we can only pick one???

And the subtext of the sad part is I will have no free day-time (read: shopping) hours. Flying all the way across the country to our Nation’s (Fashion) Capital and I will not get to shop. All those who know me also know that this is a crime and a tragedy. One from which I may not soon recover.

At least I know the hotel we’re staying at is a good one. I found that out today. I emailed my friend, Kat, saying something like “We’re staying at a hotel called the Hudson. It’s an Ian Schraeger so should be good, right?” She responded with “you are so funny. that’s like saying: there’s this bridge in san francisco, the golden gate, have you heard of it? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.”

If you don’t go see Spamalot, then the terrorists have won.

And you should go by the U.N. and bitch slap John Bolton for me.

Spamalot!! That’s right. I’ve been wanting to see that and it completely slipped my mind. And unfortunately, I didn’t see your email until this morning because my blog was down for the last few days — during my entire trip, actually — due to an unfortunate hacking incident. (blog post on that coming soon).

This also means that, while I drove by the UN on my way out of town, I did not receive your directive in time.

I am now back in SF and have apparently allowed the terrorists to win and John Bolton to escape the sting of my hand.

Raising a Kid
I'm Quinn's mom. He's basically The Cutest Kid in the Known Universe. Ok, I know, your kid's cute too, but this one's mine. He was born in March of 2002 and came home from the hospital to a shower of Cherry Blossoms.

Founding Companies
In January 2007 Thor & I joined forces with Lane Becker of Adpative Path to found Satisfaction Unlimited. You can get a sneak peak by going here and clicking on any company or organization that suits your fancy. And you can get more insight by checking out our Satisfaction Blog. Previous to Satisfaction I was a founding partner of Rubyred Labs, a design driven Internet product development firm where we made cool stuff and enjoyed breakfast, particularly when it involved cereal, coffee and grapefruit. Jonathan Grubb is still running Rubyred.

Keeping the Peace
All this has left me craving a nap, but I still somehow manage to find time to travel with my brilliant and adorable husband (and sometimes my friends), experiment in the kitchen, and hit the town with my gorgeous, smart, single gal pals who are in search of kind, eligible men (I know you're out there...)
