Family Planning
We drove down to “Ubie & Grandpa’s” house last night after the Techcrunch party. (Which, by the way, was not nearly as fun as the Valleyschwag Hoedown — No whiskey. No giant rockinghorses. No fashion show…. But there were miniature hamburgers.)
When we came in, Quinn was sound asleep in the guest room king bed. It took a lot of restraint to not scoop him up and squeeze him. When he woke up this morning and noticed me next to him his face broke out into his big twinkly-eyed smile and he snuggled up against me, stroking my face. Heaven.
……………………………………………………..
A little later we had this convesation:
Quinn: What do you want to be, Mommy?
Me: When I grow up?
Q: Uh-huh.
Me: Quinn’s mommy.
Q: Well, what do you want to be when you’re done being Quinn’s mommy?
Me: I’ll always be Quinn’s mommy.
Q: Even when I’m a big person you’ll still be my mommy?
Me: Yep
Q: Why?
Me: Because I’ll be your mommy forever.
Q: And I’ll tell my children that Thor’s my daddy and Amy’s my mommy.
Me: So what do you want to be when you grow up?
Q: Um… I don’t know… (thinking)
Me: Really, you don’t know??
Q: (with sudden certainty) A daddy.
